Singer/Songwriter Denise Sherman is a Social Change Artist whose inspirational New Thought Music empowers people to recognize the highest good in themselves and those around them. She has had the honor and privilege of sharing the stage, opening for, and/or performing with amazing New Thought artists including Rickie Byars Beckwith, Esther Nicholson, Celia, Cliff Rubin, John Maxwell Taylor, and Karen Taylor Good , among others.  She is currently scheduling a New Thought solo tour of the US and still has some dates available. She accompanies herself on piano and keyboard, and plays crystal bowls and Native American flute to facilitate meditation. Also a skilled percussionist, she specializes in world beat percussion utilizing djembe and congas, among other instruments.

Denise served the Unity Church of Indianapolis for fourteen years, first as Choir Director and then as Music Minister and Director. During this time she produced, directed, and arranged all of the music for regular Sunday Celebration services and most special events such as a Metaphysics of OZ production. She directed and was a member of Unity's Praise Band, “Spirit of Praise.” During her tenure at Unity, she had the great joy and privilege of working with extraordinary musicians from Indianapolis as well as bringing in nationally recognized musical talent from all over the country.

On November 1st, she became the Director of Music at Spiritual Science Indianapolis. Her band "The Beat Angels" frequently accompany her as she shares her musical gifts with the congregation.

“Spirit through Music” is her motto and more than that, her life’s journey as she continues to express her gifts from God through music.

Throughout the years, her tremendous ability to bridge genres of music has created national exposure for her singing, songwriting and performing. Her experiences span the spectrum from singing classically at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. to being a voice in UpStart, a powerful A'ccapella women's quartet. UpStart’s songs encouraged women and children, inviting them to "Take Back the Night," as part of the national campaign to support and empower victims of abuse. They also held concerts and workshops at many university campuses and performed on the main stage of the National Women’s Music Festival.

Denise has performed in venues including Verizon Wireless Music Center, the Murat Theater at Old Natioinal Center, Blues etc. in Chicago,  The Slippery Noodle in Indianapolis, IN, and the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, as well as at countless Universities, Schools, Clubs, Convention Centers, Theatres and Churches. Denise has performed and/or recorded with Grammy and Tony Award winners such as Koko Taylor "The Queen of Blues," rock legends Cheap Trick, blues greats Taj Mahal, James "Yank" Rachell, Pinetop Perkins, Keb Mo', Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women, and Governor Davis and the Blues Ambassadors, Duke Tumatoe; jazz's outstanding Diane Schuur and Sunny Wilkinson; national award-winning children’s singer and songwriter Thaddeus Rex; Broadway's Timothy Shew who starred in Tony Award Winning, "Les Miserables," Jodi Benson who starred as Disney's Ariel from "The Little Mermaid" and Barbie in "Toy Story 3, " and world-renowned opera singer Alan Held.

Since 1992, Denise has been utilizing her Music Education degree from Millikin University and expressing her talents as an educator, serving as an in-demand voice teacher and performance coach for students in two of the premier show choir programs in the Indianapolis area, Center Grove High School to the south and Carmel High School to the north. She has had tremendous success with her students earning places and then solos in the elite performing groups at their school. Of those students who choose to pursue a degree or a career in the performing arts, many of her clients earn musical theatre or vocal performance scholarships to leading universities around the US or perform all over the country in television or theatre, and theme parks such as Disney World, and even Disney in China! Several of her students have been featured in print ads for national magazines as well.

In addition to career-minded performers, many of Denise’s clients are individuals who wish to improve their vocal or performance technique for their own enjoyment or to earn roles in local community theater productions. Her door is open to all levels of talent and experience, and she also delights in teaching those who have no interest in performing for other, but who simply wish to express their love of music through song!

Denise is a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and MTNA (Music Teachers National Association).
